Troy Polamalu’s legacy as one of the most influential safeties to play football began early in his career while at USC and has carried him to the NFL as a Steeler. Adapting the mentality of “Fa’a Samoan” style (which roughly translates to “being a gentleman everywhere but on the football field"), Polamalu quickly made a name for himself as a hard-working, hard-hitting, quick, intelligent defensive player. Despite his fierce, unyielding style of play, Polamalu is a mild-mannered person who in his free time enjoys surfing and playing the piano. It’s this combination of determination, easy-going attitude and raw, physical play that made Polamalu a legend at USC. He was named a First Team All-American two times in 2001 and 2002 and finished his career at Southern Cal with 278 tackles (24 for loss), 6 interceptions (3 for touchdowns), two fumble recoveries and four blocked punts.
